create project - object reference not set

description

Hi klot,

me again and as I promised in the other issue, here my description:

When I log into SF and do nothing (really ;)) there occurs an error massage as you can see in the first screen. I looked into the error log but a this time there is no log written.

Then I created a new projects as you can see in screen2, I message appears again and nothing changes - means the project-dialog don't close.

When I click in Cancel, the screen changes as you can see in screen3. The project is shown in the left panel. But when I click on "view project team" the app crashes an an error will be written in the log.

Hope you can follow my way..

Thanking you in anticipation

Hi wds,
There is a server log file, located at /App_Data/log.txt.

Could you attach it here?

If you couldn’t find it, make sure the Application Pool user has write permission on the App_Data folder. Sometimes you need to change the Applicaton Pool user to NETWORK_SERVICES.

Thanks again for your patience and help, you are really helping us to improve SF and make sure it runs at different environments.

hi klot,

just a little respone from me:

I can't find this log in my app_data. The prob is, that I can't find the account network_services in the permissions on the filesys. whether local nor in the directory. So I looked for this on the web and it seems to be not that easy to configure this. (http://forums.iis.net/t/1156692.aspx) I will go on for finding a solution...

Thx so far...

Hi wds,

Change to Networkservice user should be easy.

At IIs Manager, go to "Application Pools", select the pool and "Advanced Settings".
The NetworkService account should appear at "Identity" combobox.

I attached an image (sorry it is a portuguese screen).

Hi klot,

this is allready set, my prob is still the setting of the permissions for the folder app_data in the filesystem of my pc. Or am I wrong? This needs to be set for the read/write permissions in this folder, as you wrote in the install-readme.

Hi,
we still not able to reproduce this issue here.

I still thing think that’s something about the way EF deal with null datetime values at GMT +1 locations.

If you could please, substitute the ScrumFactory.Services.Logic.dll (attached here) at the web app bin folder and try to create a project to see what happens.

Hi,
Finally found a bug at the log services.

If you could replace all DLL at the bin folders for the attached ones it should work, I mean, the error will be logged at App_data/log.txt.

You also need to give App_Data folder read/write permissions for the NetworkServices account, or even for the Everyone user (as a test).
Just go to Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder, right click on it, select “Properties”, then Security tab.
